Hi there! My name is Shannon Roberts. I’m a wife, mama to three precious blessings from God, a professional artist, and author. I’ve always been drawn (pun intended haha) to the arts. As a child, my free time was filled with soccer and art. When I wasn’t running around on the soccer field, I was drawing pictures or participating in the newest art challenge, whether it was making friendship bracelets or painting a picture. I won blue ribbons and awards for the drawing contests my elementary school held and was recognized for my work even through high school, but it was never a path I felt I could pursue professionally. I took one art course in college during my senior year as I was finishing up my degree in elementary education, and that was probably one of my favorite courses throughout my college experience.
I went on to become an elementary school teacher for the next handful of years, earning my master’s degree during that time. Chalk was in my hands almost every day during those years, but it wasn’t until after I resigned from teaching and had our second child that I would decide to open an Etsy shop selling my chalky creations.
I started an Etsy shop as a way to help supplement some of the income I lost when I left my teaching career. At that point, I had two young children, and was excited to have something on the side that challenged me to create and help provide for our family while I stayed home raising our kiddos. The day I opened my shop, I received a notification from Etsy that I had sold my first item, a chalk card for $3.50, and that was a moment that changed everything for me - I felt like I had just won the lottery! I had no idea the path that God had in store.
Over the next several months after opening, companies began reaching out about licensing my work to sell, and to this day, I am blessed for the opportunities they’ve graciously given me to be able to collaborate with them to create new products and books. Through these collaborations, my work has been sold world-wide and in retail stores across the nation. When I look back on all the doors that God has opened, I am truly in awe by what He’s done. He deserves all the glory, and I hope to glorify Him with each opportunity and door that opens.
My family is my greatest treasure in life, and they are the biggest reason I do what I do. When I’m not drawing or creating, I’m with them, whether it’s cheering on the sidelines of a soccer field, having adventures hiking, or making memories indoors. Your support directly impacts each of them, and for that I am forever grateful! Thank you for being here and checking things out. I am so thankful you’re here! - Shannon
